* Was born on 16 June 1968, Haryana
* Graduated from IIT Kharagpur with a B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering in 1989
* Joined Tata Steel right after his graduation

* Quit Tata Steel in 1992 and started working with Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata, the Ramakrishna Mission in North-East India and Nehru Yuva Kendra
* He joined the Indian Revenue Service in 1992 after qualifying through the Civil Services Examination
* Resigned from IRS in 2006 and founded Parivartan, a Delhi based citizens’ movement that works on ensuring a just, a transparent and an accountable governance
* He was one of the major activists who was instrumental in introducing the RTI act in 2005
* He has won Ramon Magsaysay Award for Eminent Leadership along with a host of other awards
